Global Transformation: Modernizing HR Systems with Workday for a Leading Healthcare Provider

Talent Groups Case Study

A global healthcare provider and manufacturer, in operation for 200+ years, was mired in disparate HR systems and fragmented processes. The company needed to embrace change, navigate challenges and revolutionize its approach to workforce management. The challenge seemed impossible, but with guidance, support and skilled staff provided by Talent Groups, this international healthcare powerhouse—the world’s largest

provider of blood-cleansing treatments and dialysis solutions—is now positioned for continued success in an increasingly global and challenging future.

CHALLENGE

The client sought a global enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, through which they could harness data to inform the organization’s direction.

A key challenge was the scale and scope of the client’s operations:

  • 120,000 employees across 4,000 locations in 150 countries
  • Language and currency variations
  • Multiple regulatory requirements
  • Vast cultural diversity
  • A minimal appetite for change among front-line employees

Another daunting challenge was the complexity of the client’s existing HR systems:

  • 70 different HR systems
  • 130 downstream applications, requiring the mapping of several thousand data elements

Further, as the project was getting underway, the global Covid-19 pandemic erupted, resulting in increased demands for resources, disruptions in supplies, and obstacles to communication.

APPROACH

The client commenced a four-year integration of Workday’s Enterprise Resource Planning solution, with Talent Groups playing a crucial role.

Project goals included:

  • Implement the system without interruption to payroll
  • Avoid major disruptions to the business operations
  • Establish a centralized system for informed decision-making
  • Standardize HR policies across the enterprise

Talent Groups (then Queen Consulting) was fully immersed in the project from the start. We augmented staff, partnered with key stakeholders, and contributed to requirements gathering, information architecture, data analysis, and other key aspects of development. The result was a

successful integration that transformed the organization’s global operations.

IMPACT

The implementation spanned 2019–2023. Today, the firm’s 70,000 North American-based employees seamlessly engage with Workday’s ERP system—a unified, cloud-based HR solution with features that support global operations.
