A Wrap On Denver Startup Week 2014

by EdgeLink on September 25, 2014 in EdgeLink Colorado

Denver Startup week just wrapped on September 20th and all I can say is, it was pure awesomeness. This is the 3rd year it has taken place and it is great to see the growth each year.  This year, there were so many sessions at capacity that people had to sit on the floor and stand in the back – which they didn’t mind doing because the sessions were so great!  I heard multiple people say how they wish they could have attended all the sessions as all topics were timely and exciting.

It’s not just education at Denver Startup Week.  There are many great networking aspects to the event as well!  With Basecamp hosting daily happy hours, there was plenty of free Colorado microbrew being consumed at the parties and sessions.  The startup crawl is always one of my favorites.  It’s great to see how the companies just open their doors and welcome you in with food and beer.

Beyond the great sessions and fun atmosphere, one of the best parts to Denver Startup Week is being able to meet so many people that are passionate about what they do. They are so passionate, in fact, it’s downright contagious and gives many inspiration. It’s the whole “give before you get” mentality that really is the core of the Denver Startup Week culture. Even Governor Hickenlooper stopped by and made the comment that, “Denver Startup Week is a great way to raise up and champion entrepreneurs.”

EdgeLink was proud to be a sponsor again this year and I was honored to moderate a panel discussion on “Hiring Strategies for Your Startup”.  I was joined by Kelly Taylor from Pivotdesk, Mike Lewis from Kapost and John Skinner from Digabit.  Together we discussed a multitude of topics ranging from how your current employees are going to be your best recruiters to how having a keg and ping pong table in the office does not define your culture.

It was a great discussion and if you weren’t able to attend, you really missed out!  Not to worry however!
