From Skills Gap to Success: How Talent Academy Delivered Workforce Solutions
Our client, an Alaskan-based telecom company, specializes in connecting hard-to-reach geographies with innovative technology solutions. Over the years, they have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality connectivity in remote areas, requiring a highly skilled technical workforce to support their infrastructure.
CHALLENGE
A hiring manager from the company had an urgent need for a Systems Engineer role in Anchorage, AK. Due to the location, the talent pool for this skill set was extremely limited.
APPROACH
Talent Groups identified a strong candidate who was an excellent cultural fit but lacked expertise in VMware, a hard requirement for the role. The manager initially ruled the candidate out, as they could not proceed without this skill.
Talent Groups recognized the consultant’s potential despite the skill gap and introduced Talent Academy, an initiative designed to upskill and reskill consultants to bridge skill gaps while on assignment. After discussions with the hiring manager, we identified a training course that aligned with the role’s technical requirements. The consultant completed this training at the start of the project while on billing, ensuring productivity was not disrupted.
IMPACT
By leveraging Talent Academy, the consultant successfully gained the required VMware skills within three weeks. As a result:
- The consultant’s initial six-month contract was extended to nine months. The consultant was then transitioned into a full-time role with the company.
- Within a short period of being hired as a full-time employee, the consultant was promoted, demonstrating the effectiveness of the upskilling approach.
